In
Purge, there are two teams, these teams
are known as the Order and the Chosen
(see the
Story page). It is Science-Fiction versus
Fantasy; Magic versus Technology.
I. TEAMWORK
You may have difficulty distinguishing who
is on your team and who is not when you
are new to Purge, there are a few easy ways
to distinguish this:
Friend's
names are displayed over their head
in green. |
Your
Portal and Altar is labeled in green
text. |
Enemy's
names appear in red
(when a Radar/Oracle is built or you
have Detect Evil). |
The
Enemy's Portal and Altar is labeled
in red
text. |
You
spawn with your teammates. Enemies spawn
across the map at their Portal. |
Learn
the models. There are only 4 per team. |
It
is important to work as a team in
Purge to accomplish your goals. To win a
round you will need to have a good balance
of combat roles and supportive defensive
roles. You should assess the playing field
before you choose your class, if you plan
on playing on the Order, and there are 6
Wastelanders, it would be a good idea to
be an Android (Androids are great for defense
with their barriers and ability to repair
the Portal).
II.
THE ORDER
Android
The
Android is an extremely versatile, all-purpose
soldier who is also an expert at field
engineering. |
Commando
As the ultimate special ops
soldier, the Commando
excels at sniping, laying traps, and
scouting. |
Cyborg
The Cyborg, the perfect human-robot
hybrid, has the firepower of a tank
and is a specialist in nanotech upgrades. |
Wastelander
The Wastelander has enhanced DNA for
handling of chemical weapons and scientific
expertise. |
III.
THE CHOSEN
Mage
Born
with elemental powers, the Mage is the
perfect
all-purpose combatant skilled in base
conjurations. |
Assassin
The
Assassin is the master of stealth including
hit-and-run tactics, placing traps,
and spying. |
Fighter
Armed
with the latest in magical research,
the Fighter is the master of defense,
melee, and runes. |
Monk
Religiously spiritual, the
Monk no longer considers himself human,
but a master of psionics and faith healing. |
IV.
PLAYING A SUPPORT ROLE
When playing
a support role, we recommend first building
a character with high Intelligence and Energy.
You can easily accomplish this by choosing
the "Smart" prefab subclass
in the Character Setup (the right-most subclass).
A.
General
Defend
your Portal at all cost. If it is destroyed,
your side loses. As a result the winning
team earns XP.
Since
the Portal cannot be destroyed the first
3 minutes of the game, use this time wisely
to build up defenses.
Stay
alert! You will probably be visited by
the enemy! Watch for incoming opponents
in the upper-left motion/noise detector.
B.
Disarming Ion Barriers, Wards, Anti-Matter
Nukes, & Angelfires
Androids,
Mages, Cyborgs, Fighters, Assassins, and
Commandos all have a skill to disarm (destroy)
Ion Barriers, Wards, Anti-Matter Nukes,
& Angelfires.
Wastelanders
& Monks can use the Nuke/Angelfire
to destroy anything, including Barriers
or Wards. Remember, the Wastelander or
Monk are the only class that can make
these "super bombs", but they
do not have way to disarm them.
Androids
or Mages are disarming specialist. They
have ability to disarm immediately and
at a short distance.
Cyborgs,
Fighters, Assassins, and Commandos can
disarm by using thier Disarm Minor Skill
in touching range. It takes 6.6 - 10 seconds,
so make sure you are safe before you attempt
to disarm.
C.
Android & Mage
As
an Android or Mage you have the ability
to heal the Portal. Maintain the
Portal, keep its health up with Mend or
Repair. This also improves your team's
respawn time.
Setup
Ion Barriers or Wards to keep people away
from your Portal and other base structures.
Build
Nano Generator or Guardian Spirit. This
will increase the Armor Class on all base
structures.
If
you are attacked while you are defending
the base, your best bet is to stay inside
a Barrier or Ward since it can shield
you from damage. Remember the Barrier
or Ward can be temporarily disabled if
fired upon by anyone.
D.
Cyborg & Fighter
The
Fighter and Cyborg's can create "buffs"
(Sureshot Implant or Hyper Rune) and leave
up to 10 in the base for allies to pick
up. A buffed ally has an extreme advantage
over other players. Make as many of these
as possible so your other base defenders
are constantly "buffed".
Creating
"buffs" for others are also
an excellent way to accumulate PP Points
quickly. When possible, create atleast
1 extra "pack" each time you
are in your base; you will gain XP and
PP whenever it collected by a friend,
even if you are on the other side of the
map or dead.
Build
a Razor Matrix or Death Vortex to slow
down advancing opponents.
Setup
a Charge Station or Shrine near your Portal.
The Station/Shrine has a limited range,
but can recharge everyone inside its range.
This will provide regeneration of health,
armor, and ammo to base defenders including
yourself. It will also slowly repair every
structure within range. When this is combined
with the Generator or Guardian, it makes
the Portal very resilient.
E.
Commando & Assassin
The
Commando and Assassin can create "buffs"
(CriticalShot Implant and Invisibility
Rune) and leave up to 10 in the base for
allies to pick up. A buffed ally has an
extreme advantage over other players.
Make as many of these as possible so your
other base defenders are constantly "buffed".
Creating "buffs" for others
are also an excellent way to accumulate
PP Points quickly. When possible, create
atleast 1 extra "pack" each
time you are in your base; you will gain
XP and PP whenever it collected by a friend,
even if you are on the other side of the
map or dead.
Build
a UA-12 Tactical Drone or Spirit Kami
to defend your base.
Build
a Radar or Oracle to reveal all incoming
opponents. This gives the defending team
a huge advantage.
F.
Wastelander & Monk
Wastelanders
and Monks can create Health and Ammo Packs
for themselves and other players. They
can create up to 10 of these (mix and
match). You can create many packs in advance
to help your teammates. Packs heal and
re-supply players very quickly and can
give you XP just a quick.
Creating
"packs" for others are also
an excellent way to accumulate PP quickly.
When possible, create atleast 1 extra
"pack" each time you are in
your base; you will gain XP and PP whenever
it collected by a friend, even if you
are on the other side of the map or dead.
The
most powerful weapons in the game are
the final skill of the Wastelander and
Monk. This "super bomb" is a
timed explosive with an enormous explosion
radius causing massive amounts of damage.
It is known as the Anti-Matter Nuke (Wastelander)
and Angelfire (Monk). If you plant this
bomb in the enemy base, it could possibly
kill every opponent and all base structures
in one blast. Be careful, because you
can nuke yourself and friends, if Friendly
Fire is on. Also, watch out for all other
class who can disarm your bomb.
V.
PLAYING A COMBAT ROLE
When playing combat role, strategy
and communication is important. If you run
off by yourself, and try to take out an
enemy base, you will most likely perish.
To teamchat (opponents will not hear you)
the default key is back-slash '\'. It is
recommended that you have a Wastelander
or Monk with you (depending on your alignment)
so that you can be healed or re-supplied.
You can also stand near a Station/Shrine
to slowly heal or re-supply. Strategy is
up to you, and your team, if possible, having
a combination of most (or all preferably)
classes in a team makes it an easy task
to accomplish e.g. a Mage or Android could
build you a Barrier or Ward, so you have
a portable base. If you have the
Piety Points, remember to pray at the Altar
of your team's Deity before heading out
to fight.
Your main goal when playing offensive is
to destroy the enemies' Portal. (The Portal
cannot be destroyed the 3 minutes of the
game.) The secondary goal is keep enemies
away from thier Altar. Once you have destroyed
the enemy portal, your team wins. Everyone
in your team will earn XP.
New players
to Purge Jihad will be most comfortable
playing a combat role.
VI.
RPG OR FPS MODE
Before joining
game, you will given an option whether to
play in RPG or FPS mode.
In RPG Mode,
you start every class at level 1 with 0
XP. Your XP and PP will save on the server.
They are saved when the map switches, when
you quit the game, and (in case you connection
is interrupted) at intervals every few minutes.
It is highly
recommended that new or casual players chose
FPS Mode; RPG Mode is only for veteran
Purge Jihad players willing to put in the
time to earn levels for all their classes.
In FPS Mode, you will automatically start
at level 11 with 512000 Experience Points
(XP) in every class. However, you will not
able to save your XP or Piety Points (PP)
after each map. Each time the map switches
or you rejoin a game, you will be level
11 again with 0 PP. Level 11 is fairly powerful
and have good odds even against players
higher leveled than you. Also, since every
class is level 11, you have a chance to
assess every class and customize them to
your play style.
Note:
There
is no penalty for switching from FPS to
RPG or vice versa each time you play. E.g.
you may choose to build up only your Mage
in RPG Mode to level 15, decide to switch
to FPS to try out a level 11 Wastelander,
and switch back to RPG Mode next time --
retaining your level 15 Mage.
Unlike
other RPGs, there is no penalty for "rerolling"
(changing your characters attributes). Avoid
cheats, this must be done offline before
joining the server, however you will always
keep your XP and PP in RPG Mode. You are
allowed to keep tweaking your characters
to your liking.
In "Tournament Games", used mostly
for clan matches, RPG and FPS Mode have
no effect. This is because the server sets
and overrides the levels for all players.
